Founded by Robert McIntyre & Michael McCanna in 2016, Nectome’s mission is to develop a technology that can preserve the human brain in such intricate detail that it might one day be possible to upload the preserved brain’s contents to a digital format. This concept, often called mind uploading, lies at the intersection of neuroscience, artificial intelligence & futurism.

Nectome is an innovative company with the bold ambition of preserving human brains and uploading their contents, much like how we back up data from our smartphones to the cloud — except, in this case, it would involve our brains & memories. The chemical solution they’ve developed is said to preserve a body for hundreds, potentially even thousands of years, resembling a glass-like, frozen state. The company’s ultimate goal is to scan the intricate human brain & extract its data for computer simulation, allowing future generations to relive an individual’s experiences.
